Come 2014 and Honda will launch the new 2014 Accord Plug-In Hybrid in the US car market. When launched, the car will become the first petrol powered vehicle to qualify for Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle 20 standards. This translates into the car having less than 20 milligrams of emissions for every mile it covers.
Honda has also said that the Accord Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle has a fuel economy of 124 MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent) in city and 105 MPGe on highways. On ‘petrol only’ mode, the car gives a FE figure of 47 mpg in city and 46 mpg on highways.
The Honda PHEV’s powerplant consists of two electric motors mated to a 2.0-liter iVTEC Atkinson cycle engine. The power is transmitted to the driven wheels thru a CVT.
