The software update that is resulting in owners to be notified to take their Accord into the dealer is the following:
The computer software that controls the electric variable timing control is causing the electric variable timing control actuators to fail.
The dealer will connect to the car and look for a DTC P0011 (variable timing control system failure). If one exists, they'll actually also repair it by replacing the electronic variable timing control gear and an o-ring, and then update the software. If no error is found, they will just update the software.
This likely impacts almost all of the 2014 accord plug-ins and is referenced under Honda SVC Bulletin #13-102.
Hope this helps.
